on air : public space is a multimedia project that explores the platform of public broadcast.

Public Gesture : Pirate Capital , LAB, Dublin.

Prior to the 1988 Radio and Television Act RTE was the only legal broadcaster in Ireland. The open access and proliferation of self-broadcasting and self-publishing on the internet today stands at a counterpoint to this era. Found news footage of public debate around the ‘pirate radio’ scene in Ireland during the 1970’s and 80’s was screened as an installation with a melange sound work of recent radio recordings from national and international stations.

A web blog station was set up in the gallery and used the place of the public art event to generate and broadcast content. Material for the web blog was produced over the duration of the event from audio interviews, talks and performances with artists, curators and critics participating in Public Gesture : Pirate Capital.

Project made in colllaboration with curator Chiara Liberti (IT) and in association with MA in Visual Art Practices, IADT, Dublin.
